She revealed that the child’s father was none other than Emperor Heinrich I. Meanwhile, Emmanuelle II of House Liebwitz, Countess of Nuln, Duchess of Meissen, Lady Mayoress and Chancellor of the University of Nuln announced she secretly born a son one year earlier. The same occurred within the provinces that stayed true to the Emperor: Reikland, Middenheim, Talabecland and Sudenland. But there were many nobles within these lands who refused to join their Lords in overthrowing the Emperor. These provinces were joined by Ostland in their allegiance. His supporters christened him “The Scarlet Savior” and “The Scarlet Bull” after the red bull which appears on the sigil of Ostland. They soon declared that the Crown Prince was the rightful Emperor since the true Ghal Maraz revealed itself to him. The rebelling provinces were quick to point out that, since he was believed dead, Grand Prince von Tasseninck was not considered when the Volkshale voted for Emperor.
He claimed the Ghal Maraz wielded by the Emperor is fake. Long thought dead, the Crown Prince returned triumphantly bearing Ghal Maraz. Before the Children of Chaos could be beaten off, they were ambushed and routed by Hergard von Tasseninck, Grand Prince of Ostland. With the Emperor gone from the capital, another Beastmen attack, albeit a feeble one, occurred. Only the shrewd political maneuvering of the Empress prevented this declaration from becoming an all out war. They questioned his parentage, hinted that he was an agent of Chaos and the host of a great deamon. The rulers of Middenland, Nordland, Hochland and Wissenland all declared their separation from the Empire, citing the Emperor’s blatant disregard for their ancient, feudal rights as nobles. In Pflugzeit of 2515, the Emperor led the majority of the army of The Empire into the Grey Mountains to reclaim Karak Drin, Karak Gnol, Karak Drakeni, Karak Sanda and Karak Branar. Meanwhile, the Elector Countess of Nuln, Emmanuelle von Liebwitz, one of the Old World’s most celebrated bon vivants, had been living in seclusion since shortly after the Battle of the Volkshalle. In 2514, he led an expedition into the Grey Mountains to find his son. His father, Elector Count and Grand Prince of Ostland Hals von Tasseninck believed his son was murdered by mercenaries under the command of Grand Duke Gustav Krieglitz of Talabecland. In early 2512, Crown Prince of Ostland, Hergard von Tasseninck led an expedition into the middle mountains and was never heard from again. None more so than by the rules of Middenland, Nordland and Wissenland.
These acts made him incredibly unpopular with most nobility. He revived the practice of using a small and trusted group of the Privy Council as a personal Court, able to cut through the cumbersome legal system and act swiftly. Over-powerful nobility were brought to heel by decree by shrewdly levying fines, not armies, against those who opposed him. Prominent members of the nobility and their children were demoted or dismissed from the army entirely. During the The Great Northern Crusade of 2514, the Emperor proved to be not only incredibly capable, but unconcerned with the traditions of noble rights. Of course this was done with the belief that a man raised the son of a beer merchant could be easily controlled by the political machinations of the nobility. Due to his immense popularity and in order to keep stability in the wake of turmoil between Reikland and Middenland, he Electors then elected Karl-Franz II as the new Emperor. The Heroes of the Volkshalle defeated the daemon and Karl-Franz II was revealed to be Karl-Franz’s legitimate son from a hidden marriage. At the announcement of the results, the Crown Prince flew into a rage and, due to a magical conspiracy, transformed into a Keeper of Secrets. However, the Electors surprised everyone when they instead elected Boris Todbringer’s son Heinrich Todbringer of Middenheim. It was presumed by most that the Volkshalle would elect Karl-Franz I’s heir Crown Prince Wolfgang Holswig Abenauer. The Second Age of the Three Emperors was a period of civil war in 2515 which engulfed and divided the Empire.Īfter the death of Karl-Franz I from being poisoned by an assassin, the Elector Counts were summoned to Altdorf to elect a new Emperor.
